Clayborne, Sabo and Wagner LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Jay Dowling has joined the Firm as a Partner. Mr. Dowling has been an attorney for nearly 30 years in private practice. He is admitted to the bar in both Illinois and Missouri. His practice has included real estate transactions and litigation, commercial litigation and personal injury litigation. Mr. Dowling is the author of Chapter 40, “Easements and Other Real Property Interest”, of the Illinois Causes of Action Practice Handbook and Chapter 3, “Pleadings and Procedures by the Condemnee”, of the Illinois Eminent Domain Practice Handbook published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education known to Illinois Attorneys as IICLE. Both are among the leading legal works used by real estate attorneys on the subjects. Mr. Dowling will oversee the Firm’s real estate practice.
Partner John Sabo recently participated in a multi-firm team CLE presentation to the corporate counsel’s office of a Fortune 100 company on how to select the right corporate designee representative under Federal Rule 30(b)(6) to stand up for your company.
Plaintiff employee filed suit against his employer, a local hospital, for retaliatory discharge claiming that his termination was in retaliation for him exercising his rights under the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act. Clayborne, Sabo & Wagner attorney, Tameeka Purchase defended the claim arguing there was a valid and nonpretextual basis for the termination. The result was in favor of the employer hospital.
Partner Michael Wagner was named a Leading Lawyer for 2016 by the Leading Lawyer Network. Inclusion in the Network is by nomination and peer review annually. The members of the Leading Lawyers Network consist of the top 5% of the 65,000 lawyers located in the State of Illinois. Partners James Clayborne Jr. and John Sabo were also named as Leading Lawyers for 2016. James has been named annually since 2014 and John Sabo has been named annually since 2004.
Partner James F. Clayborne Jr. received the prestigious Minority Business Impact Award from the Chicago Minority Business Development Council. The award recognizes one individual a year whose efforts have made a significant contribution to the development of opportunities for minority businesses. This is the second year Mr. Clayborne has been honored by the Chicago Minority Business Development Council for his efforts to promote diversity inclusion in business procurement. Last year he received the Council’s Trailblazer Award that went this year to Valeria Stokes of the American Bar Association.
Congratulations to John Sabo for obtaining dismissal of a public utility client in a property damage lawsuit brought by a residential homeowner who claimed that his home was damaged by an electrical surge.
